For those who didn’t know, Wendy Williams got her start in celebrity trash talking from her radio days. The 53-year-old studied Communications at Northeastern University and began working on different local stations, growing her fan base with her honesty and upfront opinions on gossip happenings. It wasn’t until 2008 that The Wendy Williams Show launched and her voice all of sudden had a face and a body and she became known, even more, for her controversial remarks on the life of Hollywood.
Her transition into daytime TV wasn’t easy, as she tells ABC some fans didn’t understand the move. “It was very difficult to try to explain, because I tried to explain to the people who really loved me on radio,” Wendy said. “But the people on radio the first couple of seasons were like, ‘Who is this girl. This is not Wendy!”
She added: “On radio I was a hellcat and now I’m a hellcat on daytime TV.” Wendy explained how being “big and black” made for a lot of adjustments on daytime television. “I can’t change my skin, I won’t change my voice, I can’t change my confidence. All I can do is pray that you put up with me long enough that you actually begin to get it. You know?” she added. “Even though you think we don’t, know this is what we have in common.”
One of the most recent celebrities to fire back at Wendy in an aggressive manner was none other than Drake’s dad who captioned a photo of Wendy on Instagram after she came after he and his son’s relationship. “you know nothing about Drake or Myself,Do your research before you try and be funny to your 79 capacity audience,Rupaul Jr WATCH HOW YOU SPEAK ON OUR NAME!!!!!!!! I lost all respect for you today,” Dennis Graham said – yikes.
