Twista has always been a rapper who embraced the new generation of artists from his city. We’ve seen the Chicago spitter work with artists like Chief Keef, Lil Bibby, and Sicko Mobb in the past. On “Mortuary,” a highlight from his Crook County project, he’s teamed up with Vic Spencer, an underground rapper with an old soul. He opens the track, greeting the warm beat with some stinging, technical bars, stacking multi-syllabic rhymes like a young Cam’ron (“Gunshot’ll make you jump in the rear / Blast from the past / Passin’ the grass / Up at the peer / Call me Mr. Grand Avenue / I blow two grams / And laugh at you / You know what’s goin’ on when I blam at you”). When Twista enters, he hits some double time trills, but for the most part matches the energy of his collaborator, something he’s always been good at.
