Montana of 300 has been putting in work for a while and has continuously been pushing out quality music. The rapper has garnered well deserved attention over the years for his sound and unique approach to creating music. While he is still riding the wave of his Don’t Doubt The God album, today he unleashes Black Sunday. It’s a four track mixtape of remixes that he did to some of the biggest songs of the summer.
On the opening track of the project, he appropriately remixes Tee Grizzley’s “First Day Out.” The opening words from him are “Finna kill four remixes in one day. First remix since a nigga been home from jail.” It’s an appropriate preface to what’s to come throughout the project. Along with the remix to “First Day Out,” Montana also puts his spin on Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” and adds to the collection of rappers who have also touched Future’s “Mask Off” and Tay-K’s “The Race.” Although none of it is over original production, it’s nice to hear some new music from Montana, especially after his brief stint in prison. While the rapper released this as a four track project, he also released four music videos to accompany each one of the songs.
Upon the release of Don’t Doubt The God, it was revealed that he was incarcerated. At the time, he never said why exactly he was in jail but it was later discovered to be because of a weapons charge he caught two years prior. He was later released on July 1st.
While incarcerated, the title for his follow-up project was revealed on Twitter. He said the title for his next album would be Pray For The Devil. There isn’t any word on when that will be release date, it’s fair to assume he’s probably locking into the studio, working on it relentlessly. With Black Sunday out now, at least we have some music from Montana to hold us over until then.
The project is available for stream/ download on DatPiff.
